Tribute to Dr. Thomas Weatherall, first radiation oncologist in Slidell

Slidell Memorial staff and providers join the community in mourning the loss of Dr. Thomas Weatherall.

Thomas Weatherall, M.D., was the first radiation oncologist in Slidell. A visionary and caring physician, he worked tirelessly to bring to reality the coordination of care and advances in treatment options that were realized with the opening of the SMH Regional Cancer Center. Many of the concepts our community benefits from today at the SMHRCC are due to ideas brought forward initially by Dr. Weatherall.

"Our community has lost a great doctor,” said SMH Chief Executive Officer Bill Davis. "Dr. Weatherall forever changed Slidell Memorial and the lives of countless patients for the better. He will be deeply missed.”

Dr. Weatherall opened the Slidell Radiation Center in 1988 and served as Medical Director for 22 years before retiring in April 2010.
