Slidells Cancer Care World Class Close to Home
Cancer services are no longer spread across multiple facilities. Instead, Gulf South Louisiana residents and beyond can look within their own backyard for the care they need, all in one convenient, modern location devoted to cancer services: Slidell Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center.
Doctors at Slidell Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center can diagnose and treat cancer (and other related illnesses) all from one outstanding space--resulting in open lines of communication and a more collaborative approach.
Slidell Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center

As a leading provider of cancer care and treatment, Slidell Memorial Hospital (SMH) has always been at the forefront of cutting-edge technology used in treating and diagnosing cancer. The Cancer Center sets SMH even further apart. The complete cancer care center has received special distinction from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This commendation is awarded to less than 25% of all hospitals.
From diagnosis to treatment to outpatient cancer services, SHM’s comprehensive care can treat and support a wide range of needs. Knowledgeable nurses and specialists, all under one roof, result in better communication across the board, from patient care to clinical trials to innovative treatment options.
Laser Sharp Focus--and Tech
Diagnostic capabilities are increased due to CT, MRI imaging, and Breast MRI and PET/CT scan services. The PET/CT scan displays information that allows for faster cancer detection. It also shows how the cells respond to treatment, and helps to ensure the best course of treatment for a patient. It’s non-invasive, and often indispensable, in treating cancers that range from lung to breast and colon, melanomas, and ovarian.
More than amazing staff, SMH has the equipment to match. Millions of dollars have been invested in cancer-related technology as technology moves forward. Advanced radiation therapy, like a High Dose Rate Brachytherapy system that treats cancer from the inside out, is hard to find in the entire region--yet is now one of many high-tech tools available to properly treat SMH patients.
Image Guided Radiation Therapy, Varian IGRT, attacks tumors while leaving healthy tissues alone. SMH makes good use of RapidArc Radiotherapy Technology using a Trilogy® linear accelerator by Varian Medical Systems that’s outfitted with an On-Board Imager® KV imaging system--and in use by only seventy hospitals around the world. The linear accelerator provides treatments in a variety of angles, six to eight times faster than intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
Chemotherapy treatments are no longer a drive away. SMH offers a comfortable space, flat-screen TV, and hospitable staff to ensure a relaxed, supportive environment that’s devoted to healing.
The SMH Cancer Program provides a patient education library, wigs and other head coverings, as well as support groups, early detection programs, and screenings. Support groups are for post op patients and those in more advanced stages. See the Calendar of Events for meeting times and locations.
