Having your baby at SMH?
NurseryMost newborn babies spend the first few hours after delivery in the nursery. After that, it will be up to you and your doctor to determine whether your baby will room in with you for the remainder of your stay. You may choose to have your baby spend additional time in the nursery to allow you an opportunity to rest and recover before you go home. Our nursery is fully staffed, round-the-clock, to feed, bathe and care for all your baby's needs. Our nurses are specifically trained in caring for tiny newborns. Their years of experience and love for nursery care bring a special nurturing to all our newborns.
Neonatal Intensive Care UnitThe neonatal intensive care unit provides specialized care to newborns
with a wide array of medical problems including prematurity, respiratory
distress, infections and other anomalies. Board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and neonatal nurses who specialize in the care of sick and premature infants staff our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the only one of this level in East St. Tammany. The unit has equipment to provide cardio-respiratory monitoring
and support, including conventional and high frequency oscillating
The NICU is located on the second floor adjacent to the newborn nursery. Parents and family members are encouraged to visit the baby in the NICU. Your newborn's nurse will explain visitation guidelines.
