(Apr. 19, 2011 Slidell, LA) Local teens 16 and older looking for a tremendous summer volunteer opportunity have until Apr. 25 to get their applications in for the Slidell Memorial Hospital Junior Volunteer Program.
There are a limited number of volunteer assignments available so early submission of the application packet is recommended. Applications are available at each area school, in the SMH Volunteer office or online at http://www.slidellmemorial.org/. Junior Volunteers must be at least 16 years old by June 1, 2011, attend a mandatory orientation on May 31st and volunteer a minimum of one four-hour shift per week.
The benefits of volunteering as a teenager are numerous and include:
· The ability to explore potential careers paths
· The opportunity to build contacts/references outside of the school setting
· Volunteers develop a reputation for "going the extra mile
· They truly make a difference to others
· They gain a sense of satisfaction
· Volunteering looks great on resumes and college applications
Completed application packets with all forms, signatures, attachments and an essay on volunteering at SMH, must be received by Monday, Apr. 25.
