Preadmittance

We encourage all expectant women to schedule a tour of our SMH Birthing Center, register for one of our many prenatal classes, and preadmit for your baby's birth within the first three months of your pregnancy.
 
By preadmitting, your vital medical information will be on file should complications arise. We provide several convenient preadmission options:

1. Print and complete the online Preadmission Registration Form and bring to your scheduled SMH Birthing Center tour.

2. Bring the form to SMH Admitting, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
3. Mail the form to:

4. Call SMH Centralized Scheduling at (985) 280-2657 to register by phone, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Take a tour

Tours of our SMH Birthing Center are offered the second Saturday morning of every month. Tours begin every half hour from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the SMH Birthing Center 2nd Floor Waiting Area, and include Labor and Delivery, Nursery, Intensive Care Nursery, and Postpartum Rooms. To schedule a tour, please call (985) 280-2657.

Prenatal Education Classes

We offer a comprehensive program of prenatal classes for every member of the family. Our prenatal education program includes courses in Lamaze, breastfeeding, preparation for birth and parenting, sibling support, infant/child CPR and newborn care and development.

Baby Love preparation for birth and parenting classes are strongly encouraged for first-time parents or just as a refresher. This full-day class will cover: the stages of pregnancy, nutrition, pain management options, hospital stay and recovery, possible complications, and basic newborn care.
 
Baby Love Class One: Nutrition Recommendations, Signs & Symptoms of Late Pregnancy, Possible Complications of Pregnancy, Pain Control Options.
 
Baby Love Class Two: The Stages of Labor, Vaginal Delivery, C-Section Delivery, Basic Breathing Exercises.
 
Baby Love Class Three: Infant Care and Soothing, Diapering, Swaddling, Bathing.
 
Baby Love Class Express: Covers subjects from classes 1, 2, and 3. Bringing a pillow for seating comfort and eating before the class are both recommended.
 
Big Brother, Big Sister: Prepares children ages 3-10 for the arrival of their new sibling! Children will learn safe and proper ways to handle newborns, practice diapering and other baby care, make a special gift for their new sibling, and tour Labor/Delivery and Postpartum.

AHA Family & Friends Infant and Child CPR: Learn how to perform life-saving CPR
 
Breastfeeding Clinic: How to get started and prevent problems
