 The Rehabilitation Unit at Slidell Memorial Hospital ranked in the 90th percentile or above in the nation for outpatient outcomes, earning SMH a Top Performer status from Uniform Data Services for three consecutive years. SMH offers both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for a range of conditions including stroke, neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries or surgeries, and traumatic or non-traumatic brain injury. Our team's interdisciplinary approach concentrates on the full spectrum of recovery and delivers several levels of rehabilitation. From the moment a patient enters our program, the entire team is focused on helping the patient gain maximum independence and the best quality of life possible.
 Inpatient Therapy
SMH Rehabilitation Unit at Slidell Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed adult unit with five private rooms. The most frequent admissions are stroke patients, neurologically impaired, those with fractures of lower extremities, and patients with lower extremity joint replacement. Our experienced and multidisciplinary nursing and therapy staff provide coordinated care and establish individualized treatment plans for patients. SMH has the only rehabilitation unit in St. Tammany Parish to hold accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
The staff includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, a recreational therapist, and rehabilitation nurses. The unit is overseen by a physiatrist (rehabilitation physician) with more than 19 years' service to the Slidell community.
Our Lite Gait system for partial-weight bearing gait training is used for stroke patients, amputees, and patients with spinal cord injuries. We also offer a therapeutic garden and pet therapy programs directed by the recreational therapist.
Our comprehensive discharge planning means that patients and their family or caregivers can continue the rehab process at home. We offer family training and conferences, home evaluations (when appropriate), audio-visual educational presentations and encourage strong family involvement.

 Outpatient TherapySMH's Outpatient Therapy is located at the SMH Wellness Pavilion at 501 Robert Blvd. This 12,000-square-foot facility features a variety of equipment for therapy including an aquatic therapy pool, phototherapy, electrical stimulation, Cybex exercise equipment, fluidotherapy, ultrasound, cervical and lumbar traction, Lifecycle, Core exercise equipment, and plyometric equipment.
